BOTOX, Fillers & Threads in Phenix City
Facial Esthetics
When you’re looking for a provider of Botox, fillers or threads, it might not occur to you to visit your family dentist—but there’s perhaps no one more qualified when it comes to facial aesthetics.
Why? Most people think they need to see a plastic surgeon or dermatologist for cosmetic injections, but dentists have received advanced training in the musculature and anatomy of the face and jaw as part of their dental education. They spend their entire careers injecting mouth and facial muscles on a daily basis. This gives dentists a much more advanced and comfortable understanding of the powerful effects of great facial aesthetics.
As a strong believer in the art of facial balancing, Dr. Capra has successfully completed all available levels of training for Botox and fillers (including Basic, Intermediate, Advanced and Master) through the American Academy of Facial Esthetics (AAFE). He has also completed training in Smoothing Threads and Lifting Threads through AAFE. He provides the following services at Complete Family Dental:
- Lip enhancement
- Volumizing and smoothing laugh lines, lip lines and facial expression lines
- Mid-face volumization, chin and jawline enhancements and overall facial balancing
- Relieving the symptoms of migraines and temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD)
- Botulinum toxin injections for wrinkle smoothing, enhancing "gummy smiles" and other cosmetic purposes
- V Soft Lift threading technology using barbed, patented threads to provide an immediate face lifting effect, sometimes known as the "lunchtime face lift
- V Soft Smooth threading technology that increases collagen production, resulting in better skin quality and a rejuvenated appearance
Botox, fillers and threads are a natural complement to our cosmetic dentistry treatments, providing patients with a true smile makeover. Schedule a complimentary consultation with Dr. Capra today to discuss if you are a good candidate for these procedures.
Frequently Asked Questions About Botox, Fillers and Threads
WHAT ARE FILLERS USED FOR?
Dermal fillers are natural feeling, gel-like substances injected under the skin to create a smoother, fuller, or more volumized appearance. Common injection areas include the lips, cheeks, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, above lip "bottle lines", mid-face, chins and jawlines.
WHAT IS BOTOX USED FOR?
Botox is used to reduce the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles, including crow’s feet, forehead lines, laugh lines, and more. Botox can also help with improving "gummy smiles". Additionally, we use Botox as a treatment for migraines and TMJ disorders.
WHAT ARE THREADS USED FOR AND AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR THESE?
There are two types of threads: Lifting and Smoothing. The LIFTING thread technology uses tiny barbed and patented thread sutures placed underneath the skin to provide an immediate, subtle lifting effect on the face that improves over time. This procedure is often referred to as a "lunchtime face lift", because it is a non-surgical, minimally invasive procedure with minimal downtime. Lifting threads work to tighten skin, gently lift the mid-face, improve the look of "jowls" (sagging, loose skin below the jawline), and stimulate collagen production for a more supple, lifted appearance. The SMOOTHING thread technology uses small, smooth thread sutures placed in a grid-line manner underneath the skin to increase collagen production, resulting in better skin quality and a rejuvenated appearance. Smoothing threads help to improve to acne scarring, smooth facial lines and strengthen sagging skin. Smoothing thread procedures are non-surgical, minimally invasive with no downtime and minimal pain. For best results, multiple rounds of smoothing threads are placed in the same areas over a specified period of time. Please note that both lifting and smoothing threads are meant to provide subtle results over time and are not meant to match the level of results provided by a surgical face lift procedure. Most candidates are a great fit for smoothing threads. However, lifting threads are not a fit for everyone; age, skin thickness and existing facial structure must first be examined by Dr. Capra and then he will advise you on whether or not you are a good candidate for this procedure.
WHAT BOTOX, FILLER AND THREADING PRODUCTS DO YOU CURRENTLY OFFER?
We currently offer Botox and Xeomin. For fillers, we offer the entire line of Juvederm products (Ultra, Ultra Plus, Volbella and Voluma) and Revanesse products (Lips+ and Versa). For threads, we offer V Soft Lift and V Soft Smooth. Note that we do have the ability to order other facial aesthetic product lines; please inquire with us if there is a specific product that you are interested in.
HOW DO I KNOW WHICH ARE THE RIGHT FILLERS FOR ME?
Dr. Capra will assess your facial structure and indicate the correct fillers for you based on the A) location of the proposed facial fillers [each type of filler has a unique thickness and consistency specifically formulated for different areas of the face] and the B) ultimate goals are you hoping to achieve.
HOW LONG DOES BOTOX/XEOMIN LAST?
Botox/Xeomin works by temporarily paralyzing the muscles. This effect wears off within three to six months; as the muscles begin to move again, lines and wrinkles return. Many patients do see these lines and wrinkles lessen over time with each subsequent treatment.
HOW LONG DO FILLERS LAST?
Juvéderm and Revanesse have an array of products that can last between four to six months up to 18-24 months, depending on which product is used. Product usage depends on which area of the face that the filler is placed and the appropriate products will be chosen by Dr. Capra before your treatment is scheduled.
ARE FILLERS PAINFUL?
We use a topical numbing gel prior to injecting facial fillers, and with lip fillers, we use a dental nerve block to completely numb the area on and around your lips. You can expect to feel a few pinches with dental nerve blocks. Pain tolerance is obviously different for every patient, but we do as much as we can to make the procedure as comfortable as possible for you.
IS BOTOX PAINFUL?
Botox is typically the easiest facial aesthetics injection offered. You may feel a slight pinch or stinging sensation that very quickly subsides. Most patients find this procedure to be quick, extremely mild and very easily tolerated. Pain tolerance is obviously different for every patient, but we do as much as we can to make this procedure as comfortable as possible.
ARE THREADS PAINFUL?
Smoothing threads are a minimally invasive procedure that uses topical anesthetics to gently numb the skin. We find this procedure to be easily tolerated by most patients with a very mild level of pain which quickly subsides. Lifting threads are a minimally invasive procedure that is made more comfortable by the use of topical and local anesthetics, and most patients generally report a mild to moderate level of pain that quickly subsides. Mild to moderate soreness is to be expected in the days following a lifting thread placement; however, this will subside over time. Pain tolerance is obviously different for every patient, but we do as much as we can to make this procedure as comfortable as possible for you.
DOES BOTOX FOR TMJ CHANGE FACE SHAPE?
Many patients experience a change in facial shape when receiving Botox injections for TMJ disorder. As the jaw becomes more relaxed, the muscles shrink. This results in a softer facial profile, which most patients are quite pleased about.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR BOTOX TO KICK IN?
While some patients believe that they see their Botox/Xeomin working immediately, it’s more likely post-injection swelling. You can usually see the full effects of your Botox injections within 10 days. Give yourself a full ten days before assessing final results of Botox/Xeomin, as each area/side of the face can show results sooner or later than other areas of the face.
