Digital Dentistry in Phenix City
Digital dentistry is a modern alternative to messy impressions which are uncomfortable and make patients gag. Digital radiography is an important diagnostic tool that is more accurate than conventional x-rays. We can use this imagery to gather data about your bone structure and tooth health, that will guide the development of your personalized treatment plan. Digital radiography greatly reduces radiation exposure, while producing a faster result that we can review with you, right in our offices.
Carestream CBCT Scanner
Cone Beam technology provides a digital tomographic 3D view of the patient’s area of interest. A traditional x-ray is only two-dimensional. With cone beam systems the doctor is able to get a full 360 degree view of the tooth and all surrounding areas. Our Carestreatm 3D cone beam scanner provides nearly limitless views of the teeth while using less radiation than traditional medical CT technology. This new technology is fast, simple and painless, providing many wonderful benefits that were unavailable only a few years ago.
Digital Intraoral Scanning
Impressions have traditionally involved making a mold of your teeth using trays filled with a soft, messy, and often bad-tasting material that would harden around the patients’ teeth and gums, creating a precise model that is then used by the doctors and the lab to plan treatment and create final restorations.
The CEREC® Primescan scanner provides a new, comfortable, and precise way for our office to take digital impressions of patients’ teeth. Taking accurate impressions of a patient’s teeth is a highly important part of a large number of dental and orthodontic procedures.
CEREC Single Visit Crowns
CEREC, or Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics (CEREC), is a breakthrough technology that allows dentists to create top-quality porcelain dental crowns in just one appointment.

3D printers create three-dimensional parts from computer-aided design (CAD) models by successively adding material layer by layer until physical part is created. All 3D printing processes start with a CAD model that is sent to software to prepare the design. The 3D printer then produces the restoration for placement by Dr. Capra.
Technology
Our office employs many types of new technology that help benefit the patient by offering improved diagnosis and care.
CAD/CAM Dentistry
CAD/CAM stands for Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Milling (CAM). 3D images can be uploaded into special CAD software, allowing the dentist to evaluate the exact details of the appearance and function of the restoration. This software can also help the patient to visualize the end result of the proposed restoration.
Once the design is finalized, the files are sent to the CAM system for fabrication of the restoration to the exact specifications of the design. Use of CAD/CAM technology increases efficiency and accuracy, and can often reduce the overall number of patient visits needed.
Digital X-Ray
Digital x-rays reduce the amount of radiation needed as compared to film x-rays. The improved diagnostic capability of digital x-rays and the ability to view the x-rays on a computer screen allow the patient to better understand and follow treatment. Digital x-rays are instant, there is no longer a need to develop the film. Digital x-rays save time and increase patient care. It’s also a very green technology. By eliminating film, developer and chemical waste it is better for you and the environment!
Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
Using Electronic Medical Records our practice is able to quickly and accurately access patient information in order to provide the utmost in patient care. This helps to ensure patient confidentiality as well as reduce the need for paper. Using a digital format allows for quick access to your information when needed for insurance records yet provides a secure filing system.
Digital Intraoral Cameras
An intra-oral camera combines the latest video technologies with dental care. Both the patient and dentist can see detailed images of the teeth and mouth in real time. With an intraoral camera, you are able to better understand what is happening in your mouth and review the status of your oral health.
Prophy-Jet Polishers
Traditionally, teeth are polished using a rotating rubber cup and an abrasive paste. Prophy-jet polishing, however, uses an air polishing system with a combination of pressurized water and baking soda to remove more stubborn stains.
Electronic Apex Locator
This device is used to obtain the proper length of the root canal, from which the doctor can determine the position of the file relative to the apex of the root. This can help ensure that the canal is completely free of debris, reducing potential future complications.
Piezo Electric Handpieces
Are used for periodontal (gum) and osseous (bone) surgery. These handpieces are gently and meticulously used to remove harmful bacteria without requiring invasive measures.
Wi-Fi
Our office offers free Wi-Fi for our patients use while visiting our office.
